Twitter is a social media platform where you can send and receive ‘tweets’. These short posts can be shared by others and you can post, like and ‘retweet’ other users onto your own news feed.
Twitter is a great place for connecting with like-minded individuals and for keeping up to date with key trends, events, and news. The platform allows you to connect with a wider audience of people who you may not know or may not have heard of you or your work.
It can be helpful in getting your message out to others locally, nationally, and globally. Many individuals, organisations, and groups already use twitter to update people on their activity and often they will post/share more regularly on twitter than they will on other social media platforms.

How to set up an account
- Download the ‘Twitter’ app or go to https://twitter.com/ - click on the ‘Sign Up’ button.
- You will be asked to enter a name- this can be your own name or organisation/group name, this is the name that will display on your account.
- Add the phone number or email you wish to use for this account.
- Click ‘Next’ and then on the following page click ‘Sign Up’.
- You will be asked to verify your account by entering a code sent to the phone number previously entered. Click ‘Ok’ to have the code sent to you. Enter this and select ‘Next’. If you used an email address this step will come later.
- Create a memorable password and click ‘Next’.
- A list of topics will appear on screen and you will be asked to select your interest. This means the information and content you see will be tailored to your preferences. You can also click ‘Skip for Now’ and come back to this later if you prefer.
- You can now begin to follow accounts, either by searching for people/groups/organisations in the search bar or by following suggested account on the top right-hand side of your screen. Once you have followed some accounts your ‘feed’ will be populated with the posts they have shared.
- If you used an email account to set up, you’ll need to verify this now by clicking on the confirmation link set to you via email.
- You should be all set up now and ready to tweet!
